Catalogue your books online

If you are a regular visitor, you know I have written a post on cataloguing software for books. This is different. You might know it already, but if you don’t this could be something to keep you busy. Librarything is a way to catalogue you books and share it with others. The files are stored online. You can even put them on your blog, if you like. The first 200 books are free. Since I have loads more books then that – and I figure you do to – you can pay 10 dollars per year or one time 25 dollars to file all of your books.

Like the ‘normal’ programs, you can enter some keywords or the ISBN and search for the additional information about the book. This saves you a lot of time. It uses about 75 libraries around the word. Since this is an online program, you can also search the entries of other people. So if you have a book which is not known by any database, search the other users. If they have it, you can use the information they entered. You can also see what other people think about a particular book.

If you like, Librarything, can also function as a friend finder. It has the possibility to connect you to other people with the same interest in books as you have. Based on the books you entered, the program can also recommend books to you. Since I always look for a good way to finally catalogue my books, this seemed quite interesting. It could save a lot of work and a lot of room on my hard drive. Unfortunately, there aren’t much Dutch sources available, so I will have to wait for that.
